Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of MarkdownPad, the Markdown editor for macOS built by Yash Kesharwani. By downloading or using MarkdownPad, you agree to these terms.
1. License Grant
When you obtain MarkdownPad (whether for $0 or any amount you choose), you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the application on any Mac computers you own. This license includes:
- All editor features and the Claude AI panel
- Both Midnight and Paper themes
- Free updates for the lifetime of version 2.x
You may not redistribute, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or modify the compiled application.
2. Pay What You Want
MarkdownPad uses a pay-what-you-want model. Every price — including $0 — grants you the same full license with no feature restrictions. Payments are processed by Polar.sh, who acts as the Merchant of Record. Polar's terms of service apply to all transactions.
3. AI Features
MarkdownPad includes an optional Claude AI integration. When you use Claude:
- Your prompts and selected file content are sent to Anthropic's API.
- Anthropic's terms of service and usage policy apply to AI interactions.
- You are responsible for the content you send to and generate with Claude.
The AI feature requires an internet connection. The rest of MarkdownPad works fully offline.
4. Your Content
MarkdownPad is a local-first editor. Your files are plain .md files stored on your disk. You retain full ownership of everything you create. We never access, upload, or claim any rights to your content.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
MarkdownPad is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
The application is currently unsigned (not notarized by Apple). On first launch, macOS may display a Gatekeeper warning — this is expected. Right-click the app and select "Open" to bypass.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Yash Kesharwani shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising out of your use of MarkdownPad. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the application.
7. Termination
You may stop using MarkdownPad at any time by deleting the application. We may terminate this license if you violate these terms — though given the nature of the app, that's unlikely to come up.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date. Continued use of MarkdownPad after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of India.
